I would love to tell everyone about one of my favorite restaurants in Huntington...Honu Kitchen and Cocktails. It is located on New York Avenue, just south of Main Street in the Village. Formerly known as Blue Honu, this place transformed itself into a small plate restaurant with delicious cocktails recently. The small plates consist of everything from fresh raw shellfish to lobster tail stuffed with cornbread or lamb chops. On my most recent visit I indulged myself in many plates and a couple cocktails.
For food I had a half-dozen raw oysters, cant go wrong there. Then we ordered a set of sliders for the table which were great. Moving on next was the best dish of the night. Homemade gnocchi tossed with wild mushrooms in a light cream sauce and topped with fresh Parmesan cheese. Simply brilliant, I recommend it to anyone who goes there. Then third I finished off with the lamb chops. For dessert I had a brownie served a la mode and with white chocolate ganache. All of it was very good, but the gnocchi was head and shoulders above the rest that evening.
As for cocktails, I began with a strawberry basil mojito. It was a nice refreshing drink to begin the night with. I then progressed to the well-known drink in Huntington, the Besito Margarita named for Honu's sister restaurant down the street, Besito. This is a pomegranate margarita with other fun flavors mixed in and it is of course delicious.
So in closing, I like Honu a lot and give it a 4 star rating.
